Mode Supports Reed Gift Appeal for the Second Year

Christmas is a special time, particularly for Children. Unfortunately this Christmas, many children will not have the excitement of rushing downstairs to open Christmas presents as they will be in hospital having had an accident or suffering from illness. Following Mode’s donation last year, and the exceptional success of the Reed Welwyn Garden City branch, where 500 gifts were donated, Mode once again wanted to give something back and try to make this difficult time slightly more enjoyable for a few. Again this year we wanted  to donate gifts such as books, games, DVDs, art & crafts material, selection boxes and similar, to cater for children of all ages. Reed came and collected these from our Client Support team on read more...

3 Ways to Reduce Your Print Needs

A paperless office has been a dream for many business owners for over a decade, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that completely abandoning paper is both unrealistic and counter-intuitive for many businesses. However, that doesn’t mean that your business cannot cut down on print requirements and streamline processes to reduce your waste. Reduce Your Number of Printers Many of our clients come to us with a number of printers – all from different manufacturers and set up differently, which makes it difficult to create a cohesive and useful print environment. One simple way to make your printing easier and create valuable print processes is to have fewer machines that do more. Printers are often shared by just 2-3 employees – read more...

Mode Print Solutions are a CarbonZero Company for the 2nd Year

We believe that every business needs to have a commitment to the environment and the wider world that we live in. That’s why we joined the CO2balance Kenyan Energy Stove Project and devoted resources to become a CarbonZero company from September last year. The CO2balance Kenyan Energy Stove Project supplies energy saving stoves to villagers throughout Kenya. Traditional Kenyan cooking is done on a three stone fire, which is incredibly inefficient and fills villagers’ homes with smoke which can cause or exacerbate a range of health issues. The brick stoves provided by the CO2balance Kenyan Energy Stove Project reduce firewood usage by 50% and lower carbon emissions through cooking. Other benefits are that it makes cooking more cost-effective, reduces deforestation, read more...

Will the Weak Pound Affect Your Printing Prices?

The long-term effects of the Brexit vote are yet to be seen, but the pound’s performance on markets has been weak, falling by as much as 6% in just 10 minutes. A weak pound has an impact on both personal and business pockets, and may have an impact on your print prices too. Printweek announced that printers and print buyers should be ‘braced for double-digit paper price rises’ if the pound does not recover against the euro. In the week of October 10th, the sterling was down 14% against the euro since the referendum vote several months ago. Since most paper used in the UK is imported – mostly from paper mills in mainland Europe – this will have an read more...

3 Tools to Help Your Remote Workers

Working from home is a dream for many Britons, and the reality for an increasing number who either work for themselves or for an office that has embraced the flexible workspace. Over 10% of employed adults now work from home at least part time, and we expect that number to increase as offices embrace new technology that makes it easier to communicate and work effectively from any location. While the South West has the highest work from home rates, at 17.1%, but 13.6% of London workers work from home (and the figure is rising – 193,000 more people work away from the office compared to 10 years ago). The information and communications industries have the most remote workers, but these read more...

The environment is incredibly important to a lot of businesses throughout London and the UK, and Mode is no exception. We’re dedicated to keeping printing green and reducing our impact on the environment, which is why we offer green printing tips on our website and a toner recycling programme. More than a million tonnes of paper are used every single day in Britain, with the average person using 4 trees’ worth of paper every year, according to the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). Responsibly-sourced paper is the next step in ensuring that your print management, processes, and materials are as eco-friendly as possible. The FSC certifies paper that is sustainably sourced to show that the pulp used is not a result read more...

Rio 2016 Promotes Environmental Responsibility with FSC Paper

Just over 10 years ago Brazil had the highest deforestation rate in the world – since then, governments and charities have focused on improving responsible forestry and the impact of timber and paper businesses on the environment. Rio 2016 is a fantastic opportunity put those priorities on centre-stage, which is exactly what organisers have done. The Rio 2016 Committee has partnered with the FSC to increase environmental awareness around the games and ensure that all products acquired for them – from structural timber to stationery – are FSC certified. 214 organisations have become FSC certificate holders since the Olympics agreement was made, including paper and graphics partners. Some FSC suppliers were even chosen as Olympic torch-bearers to acknowledge the work read more...

83% of Europeans Say a Paperless Office is Unrealistic

For years, the businesses have been trying to cut down on paper and move to total digitisation – the paperless office has been an aim across a range of industries. However, a survey by Canon Europe showed that 57% of office workers print more documents today than they did 3 years ago, and 78% of decision-makers say that document printing is either essential or very important to their business. The vast majority of office workers say that printers are vital to their work – the humble office printer shows no signs of disappearing. Increased bureaucracy and the need for contracts throughout the lifetime of agreements may be to blame for the increase in printing, but paperwork is more important than read more...

Efficient Printing and the Environment – Why it’s Everyone’s Responsibility

Efficient printing is one of the ways in which you can actively help to create a sustainable environment in your organisation. Efficient doesn’t just mean fast and simple, it can also mean sustainable. The planet aside, efficient printing will also save you money by reducing your consumption of toner and of paper. There are certain key elements which should be put into play to ensure that your print efficiency is working at maximum capacity – they are as follows: Follow me printing: This means releasing your print job through a secure code to any machine in your organisation. Follow me printing reduces the waste caused by abandoned prints. Rules-based printing: Reducing toner consumption by defaulting to mono printing and printing read more...
